Ombudsman rejects complaints over Highland Housing Fair

Building Design

One of the country's most exciting housing schemes has received a huge boost after accusations of maladministration were officially rejected. BD reported in February that the Highland Housing Fair, to be built near Inverness, was being investigated by the Scottish Public Service Ombudsman over claims that it had not properly followed planning procedure. But a leaked draft report by Ombudsman seen by BD has exonerated planning authority the Highland Council by dismissing allegations that residents and politicians had not been properly consulted and that the fair violated the local development plan. The Highland Housing fair involves bespoke homes on 27 plots by 25 architects, including Richard Murphy, Studio Kap, Graeme Massie and Nord. The designs were selected through a major RIAS competition. The fair aims to showcase the best of housebuilding design and technology when it debuts in August next year and will contain 40% affordable homes.
