Make to turn Edinburgh Odeon into hotel

Building Design

Make plans to convert an art deco former Odeon cinema in Edinburgh into an arts hotel. The 1930s B listed building on Clerk Street closed five years ago. It is owned by Duddingston House Properties. The scheme will create a 230-bed hotel, branded “ZED”, with a restaurant, café and flexible community facilities which could include a small cinema or a lecture theatre. The hotel would retain the building’s facade and foyer, with the auditorium converted into a public courtyard. Artists’ studios will face on to the courtyard, allowing artists to display their work in the central space. The courtyard will also feature a large glass projection screen on one wall.
