A housing development in Edinburgh joins an art centre in Orkney and architect Zaha Hadid’s Maggie’s Centre in Fife in the running for a top architecture prize. The 2007 Andrew Doolan Award, which is organised by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS), usually recognises major projects commissioned by businesses or local government. The award was won by the Scottish Parliament in 2005 However the £2.37 million Prices Gate development, built by Bryant Homes overlooking the Pentland Hills, has made the shortlist. The development was designed by Scottish architect Malcolm Fraser, who said its inclusion should encourage others to make interesting modern architecture.
