The tower blocks of Sighthill will be replaced by a playpark and new homes as part of a £60 million-plus redevelopment of the area outlined today. The 15-year plan to transform what is currently one of the city's most deprived neighbourhoods also involves building new sports and community facilities and a major revamp of the Napier University campus. The controversial athletics and rugby stadium planned for Sighthill, however, has been dropped from the city council blueprint. Instead, Sighthill Park will remain as a green lung at the centre of the redeveloped neighbourhood. A new street is to be built complete with a parade of shops, a new community centre, library and a student housing development. Alongside them, and next to the university campus, will be a new civic space and park. Napier University plans to completely redevelop the campus over the coming years by rebuilding its main block and adding three more buildings.
