Residents say a new 16-storey hotel planned for Haymarket will dwarf the surrounding area and block views from their homes. The five-star hotel is the centrepiece of a £200 million redevelopment for the former Morrison Street goods yard, which also includes proposals for a Travelodge hotel and office blocks. The first images of the scheme were revealed in the Evening News yesterday and the plans have now been lodged with the city council. Although local resident associations today said the Tiger Developments scheme was an improvement on previous proposals for the site, they said they were concerned over the height of the leaf-shaped hotel. At roughly the same height as the Balmoral Hotel, the glass and stone structure would tower over surrounding buildings and be visible from miles around.
