A massive regeneration of Leith Docks featuring 16,000 new homes was unveiled today in the biggest planning application ever to come before the council. The 30-year plan, by Forth Ports, is set to create around 12,000 jobs, generate billions of pounds in investment and make Edinburgh's waterfront a "world-class" destination. Nine "urban villages" will be created under the plans, with the masterplan for the first one - to be placed beside Ocean Terminal - due for release later this year. Along with thousands of new homes, the newly created community will feature a range of leisure, retail and commercial developments, including a possible new concert hall.
