Merger Between 3D Architects and REID architecture announced

3D Architects, the 3rd largest practice in Scotland, have announced a merger with REID architecture. The new practice will operate as 3DReid, in recognition of the equal and complementary qualities of each organisation. 3D and REID architecture have a long interconnected history, going back 25 years, with several key 3D personnel having spent significant portions of their careers at REID.

The merger will see 3DReid with a combined workforce in excess of 320 people with Scottish offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Falkirk and additional offices in Birmingham, London and Manchester. An expected turnover in the first year in excess of £20 million will rank it amongst the UK's top 10 practices.

Current 3D Director Charles Graham-Marr will be Chairman of the new organisation. Scot Geoff Reid, who established REID architecture 28 years ago, is taking the opportunity provided by the merger to retire from the business.

3D Architects is an Architects Journal Top 100 practice established in 1989. It has over 180 architects and staff in its Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester and London offices. Current and recent projects include a major retail and office development on Edinburgh's famous Princes Street within the World Heritage Site, a large scale mixed use neighbourhood centre in the Forth Quarter, Edinburgh and the Clackmannanshire and Borders Schools PPP programmes.

REID architecture was established in 1979. It operates from its Birmingham, Glasgow, and London offices designing a wide range of projects in the airport, office, retail, residential, leisure, industrial and distribution, and urban design sectors. It is a highly research focussed practice and employs its unique 'Knowledge Design' approach to architectural design. It has recently won a string of awards culminating in an RIBA Award for its Farnborough Air terminal building.
