Farrell's Edinburgh extension design scrapped

Building Design

Designs by Terry Farrell to extend his "iconic" International Conference Centre in Edinburgh have been scrapped following the developer's shock withdrawal Cala-AWG, the firm behind the seven-storey office project in the city's Exchange district, said this week that it was withdrawing after four years of work because of escalating "global" construction costs. Client the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) said it would re-tender for a new developer and architect. The £80 million project, which is intended to complement a new 1,600 seater auditorium by BDP, has had a troubled history and was substantially revised last year after criticism by heritage and design groups.
