From 'shabby' to chic square

Edinburgh Evening News

A walkway described by residents as one of the "shabbiest" areas of Marchmont is set to be transformed into a new public square. The tree-lined public square will be created off Roseneath Terrace to act as a meeting place for shoppers and residents under plans being drawn up by architects and community leaders. Architects have suggested widening pavements, improving road safety at pedestrian crossings and creating the square, which will include public information boards, recycling bins, trees and cycle racks. Other suggested improvements include benches and a designated space for the area's Christmas tree. A consultation is being carried out by Urban Design Futures for Edinburgh City Council, and the firm is consulting with residents and shopkeepers over potential improvements to the area.
