The Capital's canalside is to be transformed with new public squares, broader walkways and works of street art in a bid to attract thousands of new visitors. A space for street theatre in the summer, canalside shops and the lighting up of the 100-year-old Leamington Lift Bridge are among plans drawn up. Sculptures and other works of art will also be installed at focal points along the canal as part of the £200 million regeneration of the Fountainbridge brewery site. A development blueprint drawn up by the council also includes tree-lined walkways linking the canalside to Fountainbridge. Stretches of the walkway would be widened, with new plazas created at Viewforth and beside the Leamington Lift Bridge.
