Developments in Edinburgh have been held up as examples of architectural "excellence" in Scotland in a new Scottish Executive report. The national architecture policy document, launched yesterday by Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson, cites the Silvermill development in Stockbridge and an affordable housing estate on Telford Road. Developers AMA asked architects Reiach and Hall and Oberlanders to design Silvermill, on a site previously used for parking, garages and unmatched buildings, so it was in keeping with the spirit of its Georgian surroundings. The Telford Road estate, from charitable housing association Manor Estates, was designed to act as a catalyst for the regeneration of disused railway land. A Ministry of Defence signal tower in North Queensferry that has been converted into a family home was also praised.
