Scottish architect slams PFI as a 'catastrophe' for pupils

A leading architect has resigned from a Scottish Executive advisory panel over the poor design of schools built using the private finance initiative. According to the Sunday Herald, Malcolm Fraser, deputy chairman of Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS), claimed that some schools built under PFI have "catastrophically poor" designs that could “blight the lives of those who learn in them”. "Some rooms are 24 metres from wall to wall with small windows,” he wrote in his resignation letter to culture minister Patricia Ferguson. “Libraries, sports halls and dining rooms are entirely internal with only a wee skylight.
