Historic buildings which have fallen into serious disrepair are to benefit from a major restoration project across the north-east. Money is being poured into a scheme aimed at saving fine examples of architecture and heritage. Aberdeenshire Council and the North-east Preservation Trust are joining forces to kick start the project by hiring a restoration project manager for three years. The new employee - who can expect a salary of close to £30,000 - will oversee a range of projects including renovation of landmarks at Portsoy, Kintore, Durris and Banff. Marcus Humphrey, chairman of the trust, said it marked the beginning of an important drive to preserve local heritage. "Hiring someone new will give us the help we need. We will work with the council and can access further funding opportunities to help restore an enormous number of properties," he said.
