Glasgow's first festival dedicated to the art, design and times of its most famous artistic son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, drew more than 556,000 people to its events, it was revealed yesterday. The Glasgow Mackintosh Festival, built around the enduring appeal of the unique designs and buildings of the Scottish architect, had planned for a "footfall" of around 150,000 people. Pamela Robertson, the co-ordinator of the festival which involved 120 events in 25 venues across the city, said the total amount of visits to its events had yet to be compiled, but the current figure had exceeded all expectations - and now another event of the same kind is possible. It is thought the festival could lead to an economic benefit of more than £7m to the city in the next three years.
