Modernist gem to be preserved

This is North Scotland

A rare example of 20th century architecture at a North-east hospital site has been saved from the bulldozer. Craigshannoch House at Daviot, near Oldmeldrum, was given a reprieve by Aberdeenshire Council. Developers had hoped to pull down the granite building to make way for three new homes. But it has been earmarked for protection by Historic Scotland and sits close to House of Daviot, which is itself category B-listed. The building - part of the former Daviot Hospital complex - was designed by George Bennett Mitchell of Aberdeen, in 1935. It is described as a modernist structure with multi-paned glazing in metal windows.
