An internationally renowned firm of Scottish architects has won the contract for a prestigious £40million development in Aberdeen city centre. Edinburgh based-Richard Murphy Architects beat off stiff competition from around the world to win the brief for the redevelopment of the site of the former Satrosphere on Justice Mill Lane into hotel and office accommodation. The developer behind the project, Hazledene Group, launched the competition after buying the site, on the corner of the Hardgate, from AWG Property for £3.4million earlier this year. Councillors gave the go-ahead in June for plans which will feature a 148-bedroom hotel, 125 flats within a seven-storey glass and steel tower, and a 210-space underground car park at the dilapidated site which has been branded an "eyesore" by locals.
