Iconic Scots buildings vie for top award

The Scotsman

Three buildings in Scotland, from a striking copper-clad cancer centre in Inverness to a set of industrial sheds in a run-down part of Glasgow, have joined the long-list of contenders for the UK's top architecture trophy. They are among 62 buildings in the UK and Europe which have qualified for this year's Stirling Prize by winning awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects. The competition includes a £1.2 billion airport terminal in Spain, a café in Birmingham designed by the London Eye architects, and a set of new school classrooms in London. The £25,000 Stirling Prize was won last year by the Scottish Parliament. An entrant this year is the new National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff, designed by Lord Rogers.
