The first major festival celebrating the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the architect and designer, was launched yesterday. The one-off event is expected to draw an extra 150,000 visitors to Glasgow this September. All aspects of Mackintosh's work will be highlighted through a series of exhibitions, talks, tours and films, as well as musical and dramatic interpretations. Pamela Robertson, the festival co-ordinator and professor of Mackintosh studies at Glasgow University, predicted the festival would see many people rediscover the designer. She said: "I think it's a celebration of Mackintosh's work, but also a celebration that he belongs to Glasgow.
