City architect raises roof at design awards

Edinburgh Evening News

A city architect has scooped four awards, including architect of the year, at a prestigious national design awards ceremony. Richard Murphy Architects, based in Old Fishmarket Close, won the series of top accolades at the Scottish Design Awards, presented by comedian Jo Caulfield. Mr Murphy was named Scottish Architect of the Year 2006, while his company's £1.2 million transformation of the former engineering works at Dean Bank Lane won it the best residential project award. The firm also scooped the Best Building for Public Use award and the Architecture Grand Prix, both for the Galeri Caernarfon in Wales. Among the recent work undertaken by the firm is a new building for the University of London, refurbishing the principal's office at Napier University's Craighouse campus and designing 19 new properties for CALA Homes in Balerno.
