City chief attacks 'deficient in eyesight' planning decisions

Edinburgh Evening News

Edinburgh's planning leader has launched a scathing attack on Scottish Executive officials who overrule the decisions of local councillors. Councillor Trevor Davies said he was tired of the Executive's planning appeals reporters telling the council what was right for Edinburgh. And he branded one official "deficient in eyesight" after a "terrible" development was granted permission on appeal. Members of the planning committee are now set to launch an official protest to the Executive after being made to approve what they see as a string of unacceptable developments. Cllr Davies described the situation as being stuck between a "rock and an Executive reporter". He said: "As a committee we are very vexed by this and we intend to make our feelings clear to the Executive that too often reporters are dismissive of what we feel is right for the city.
