Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Charles Rennie Mackintosh will be the subject of a new documentary planned to be screened as part of a festival to celebrate the Scottish architect's life and work later this year.
The BBC Scotland documentary is being produced by independent company Mentorn and will highlight the influence of Mackintosh's wife Margaret. May Miller, head of Mentorn Scotland, said: “Mackintosh is wheeled out for tourist campaigns, but there hasn't really been a proper appraisal of him and his work. “He's a great artist whom we take for granted in Scotland. The last major programme about him was almost a decade ago.” Miller added that one of the things the documentary sought to do was to reassess his later years. She said: “Towards the end of his life, he and Margaret lived in the south of France, and the traditional view is that his art went downhill.
