Charles Rennie Mackintosh
The first details of a festival dedicated to the memory and work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh were revealed yesterday. It is hoped the event will bring thousands of visitors to Glasgow and contribute more than £7m to the local economy. A series of 100 events throughout the year, focused on September, will bring films, music, dance and visual art to venues across the city. Highlights of the festival include events at some of Mackintosh's most famous architectural works in Scotland – The Lighthouse, Glasgow School of Art, the reconstructed House for an Art Lover, The Willow Tea Rooms, and Scotland Street School Museum in Glasgow, as well as the Hill House in Helensburgh. In September, Glasgow University will show a series of films at its Gilmorehill G12 venue on the theme of architecture, and the Studio Dance Company will perform a show entitled Dance in the Glasgow Style, at the Hunterian Art Gallery.
