'Iconic' city skyscraper to house hotel and 300 flats

Evening Times

Scotland's biggest skyscraper earmarked for Glasgow's east end will boast a luxury hotel, 300 flats and underground parking for hundreds of cars. The 591ft-high tower in Dalmarnock will also include leisure and spa facilities and conference rooms over 55 storeys, according to details released today. Original plans for the tower were inspired by the One Wall Centre skyscraper in Vancouver. The Canadian landmark is part hotel, part condominium, and curved into an eye-shape. Now engineers Arup, who have worked on Sydney Opera House and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, have unveiled details of the Glasgow project for the first time. If given the go-ahead, the building planned for derelict land on Millerfield Road will include a 96-bedroom hotel, 296 flats and underground parking for 420 cars. Developers believe the "iconic" tower will dominate the east end skyline and kickstart brownfield site redevelopment.
