A campaign has been launched to make the neon façade of the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow a listed landmark. The sign, in the east end of the city, is an iconic Scots image, according to campaigners keen to secure its status. It is understood they will meet Historic Scotland this week to discuss how the sign, which was erected around 1982, could be given listed status should the building be sold. Alan Pert, an architect involved in the campaign, said: "The Barrowland is something so distinctive and unique. The area is one of regeneration and I'd always regret it if we didn't try to secure it as a listed building and it was sold in the future and demolished."
