Edinburgh could be stripped of its World Heritage Site status because of two tower blocks to be built on the site of the old Royal Infirmary. A key advisory body which helps Unesco award the coveted title has said the Capital's skyline will be "pierced" by the two 11-storey blocks of flats which form part of the Quartermile development close to the Meadows. The International Council of Monuments and Sites (Icomos) said the skyline had been a key part of the original case for the World Heritage Site, which covers the Old and New Town.
