Shop centre UK's 'worst building'

The Press Association

A shopping centre designed as the centrepiece of a visionary new town in the 1960s has been voted Britain's most hated building. Cumbernauld town shopping centre in Lanarkshire secured the ignominious title in a Channel 4 poll, involving 10,000 people, to find the building most people would like to see demolished. The survey was carried out for Demolition, a new series running from December 17-20 this month, which aims to provoke debate about poor architecture and planning. More than 1,000 buildings, from toilets to palaces, were nominated from across the country.
