£200m vision of a new Princes Street 'doomed'

Edinburgh Evening News

The former owner of Jenners has warned a £200 million bid to transform Princes Street is facing failure because it does not have the support of major property owners. Robbie Douglas-Miller, whose family sold the famous store for £46m earlier this year, warned the plans for an ambitious revamp would prove a waste of time until certain key players agreed to take part. He also suggested hundreds of thousands of pounds had been wasted drawing up previous blueprints which were then later largely discarded. The Edinburgh City Centre Management Company (ECCMC) - which was set up by the council to revitalise the shopping heart of the Capital - appointed the Dutch firm AM Developments last month to draw up a ten-year master plan for the city centre.
