The facade of the Edinburgh Playhouse is to be restored to its original art deco splendour. Around £100,000 is to be spent on a major makeover of the exterior, which the theatre's management currently describe as "drab". Bosses hope the new image - which is set to be in place before the end of the year, subject to planning permission - will revive the look the Greenside Place theatre had when it opened in 1929. It is hoped the makeover will not only lift the look of the Playhouse, a major venue for the Edinburgh International Festival, but also make it appear more in keeping with the adjacent Glasshouse Hotel and the Omni Centre.
