Why the parliament is a shoo-in for Building of the Year award

The Scotsman

The announcement of Scotland's Building of the Year award - the UK's most lucrative architectural prize - is imminent, but only the most naïve will be surprised when the Scottish Parliament is revealed as the £25,000 winner. True, there is a shortlist of five projects, but the collective cost of the other four - worthy though they may be - does not even come close to the sums made available for the parliament's landscaping alone. Put bluntly, like is not being compared with like and it would be a brave judge indeed who dared to suggest a small housing association project in Rothesay designed and constructed within its budget was a better building than the most expensive project in the last 300 years of Scotland's history.
