The Holyrood parliament building was today at the centre of a new controversy after it emerged the latest prize it is tipped to win is largely funded by the Scottish Executive. The £431 million Scottish Parliament is one of five on the shortlist for the prestigious Andrew Doolan architecture award, Britain's biggest design prize. But today, the Executive admitted that £15,000 of the £25,000 prize money is funded by the taxpayer. Independent Lothians MSP Margo MacDonald questioned how seriously any victory could be taken for the Holyrood building, which has already won six other design awards.
