Capital theatre in line for multi-million pound redevelopment

The Herald

The Ross Theatre, in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, is to be redeveloped in a multi-million pound project aimed at attracting more headline acts to the city. Because of its dramatic backdrop, the ageing bandstand is popular with performers and was the venue for last weeks' Franz Ferdinand gigs. A spokesman for Edinburgh City Council said a multi-agency team, which includes the architect who designed the famous Gherkin building in London, had been commissioned to produce a "scoping study" to look at the issues surrounding the development of the Ross Theatre. She explained: "This team won the right through the public procurement process and will be looking at current infrastructure, access to the gardens and what would be appropriate, as it is a World Heritage site.
