Czech's in the post to save statue of Victoria

Edinburgh Evening News

A sculptor who worked on memorials for Ground Zero in New York is helping renovate a little-known statue of a young Queen Victoria in the Capital. Expert stonemason Radomir Sutera, from the Czech Republic, has been brought in to replace badly worn areas of the sculpture. He is one of two Czech stonework specialists who are helping with much needed work on an A-listed building at Castle Terrace. The building, designed by Sir James Gowans and built between 1868 and 1870, features some of the most distinctive decorations in the city - although many may never have laid eyes on them. The roof of the building features three statues - a crowned female figure holding two laurel wreaths, and two cherubs.
