Thinking big to preserve city's history

Edinburgh Evening News

Edinburgh's World Heritage Site may be enlarged to provide better protection for historic buildings. A report published today has called for a review of the boundary to make a greater buffer between new developments and the city centre's ancient architecture. The demand was made by Edinburgh World Heritage trustees, who have launched their own vision for the future of the area. The organisation has also raised fears that its striking architecture and splendid views could be damaged by shoddy workmanship and inappropriate building materials being used for new developments. Now the first management plan designed to safeguard the city's unique features has been drawn up to counter these dangers.
