Turning over a new Leith

Edinburgh Evening News

Major new landmarks to emulate the Black Diamond in Copenhagen and Prague's "Fred and Ginger" office block are being planned as part of the radical transformation of Leith Docks, it emerged today. Developers masterminding a £2 billion overhaul of the port over the next 20 years want cutting-edge architecture to shine on Edinburgh's new waterfront. Forth Ports wants Leith to boast the kind of iconic buildings which have wowed critics in Copenhagen, where an extension to the National Library tilts over its waterfront, and Prague, where Frank Gehry's famous office block amazes onlookers every day. The plans were revealed by the firm today as it unveiled striking new designs and a huge scale model of the area where 18,000 homes are set to be created.
