Luxury flats plan for city deaf school wins seal of approval

Edinburgh Evening News

A multi-million-pound bid to redevelop Edinburgh's deaf school is set to take a major step forward after winning the approval of city planners. Developers Cala Homes has won the backing of council officials for a controversial £80 million transformation of Donaldson's College, at West Coates. The go-ahead for the creation of 63 luxury flats inside the 153-year-old A-listed building could be given as early as Wednesday, when councillors are due to rule on the scheme. The plans also involve the creation of a further 72 futuristic homes in a crescent shape behind the landmark building, designed by William Henry Playfair.
