£35m bus depot vision is unveiled

Edinburgh Evening News

A new £35 million plan to transform a former bus depot near the city centre into hundreds of homes was unveiled today. The new owners of the old Lothian Buses depot in Shrub Place hope to build more than 300 homes, two public squares and a tree-lined pedestrian link through the heart of the site. A row of shops, small offices and possibly a hotel or flats along Leith Walk are also planned under the proposals, with the Edinburgh Masonic Club set to move to the front of the busy thoroughfare. Edinburgh-based BL Developments wants to create dozens of homes for first-time buyers and town houses costing up to £500,000 each. The developers are also in early talks with the council to buy the adjoining social work HQ, Shrubhill House, to incorporate into the project.
