The architect appointed by the Scottish Executive to champion good design in cities has berated Glasgow for its scattergun approach to erecting high-rise buildings. Malcolm Fraser, deputy chairman of the board of Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) – which will be launched tomorrow by Patricia Ferguson, minister for tourism, culture and sport – said Glasgow city chiefs need to reconsider their haphazard approach to planning. Fraser, two-time Scottish Architect of the Year and director of award-winning firm Malcolm Fraser Architects , told the Sunday Herald: “There needs to be an overall approach to high buildings in Glasgow. “There are an awful lot of high building proposals coming through the city at the moment. I don't have an issue with that in principle, but Glasgow, as a city council, needs to consider where these buildings might be.
