UK's oldest car plant to be turned into flats

The remains of Britain's oldest car factory are set to be transformed into flats after the scheme won the backing of planners. The former Madelvic Car Factory in Granton will be converted into 16 flats designed by award-winning firm Malcolm Fraser Architects as part of the regeneration of Edinburgh's waterfront. More than 60 new homes will also be built above six commercial units on an adjoining site on Waterfront Avenue as part of the massive project. City planners have recommended a planning application for the scheme, which includes a further 13 affordable homes for the Outlook Housing Association, gets the green light at a meeting next week.
