It was built at a cost of millions and has been open for less than six months, but already some people want to knock it down. The Scottish Parliament at Holyrood is one of the most popular - or should that be unpopular - choices so far in a nationwide search for "Britain's worst building". The controversial £431 million parliament has received 30 per cent of the nominations for Edinburgh buildings, just ahead of the long-hated St James Centre. Only Edinburgh University's Appleton Tower has attracted more votes - and that follows a campaign to get students and staff to write in, demanding it be pulled down. The makers of a new Channel 4 show, Demolition, are asking members of the public to write in with nominations for buildings which ought to be bulldozed. A leading demolition company today estimated the cost of demolishing the Holyrood building at up to £2.5m.
