A controversial bid by bank chiefs to erect a sign on a landmark bridge beside their new headquarters faces the axe. The Royal Bank of Scotland planned that the illuminated logo would showcase the new £14.5 million modern bridge and its neighbouring £350m headquarters at Gogarburn. But the plan sparked anger, with leading city architect Richard Murphy and arts impresario Richard Demarco among the critics. Now, councillors are set to throw out the proposal despite their own planners recommending the two-metre-high sign be given the go-ahead at a meeting next week. They fear the giant sign will spoil the surrounding area around Gogarburn, which is a key approach into the Capital.
