Council chiefs today vowed to fight a proposed amusement centre in South Bridge amid growing concerns about the steady decline of the thoroughfare. A public inquiry is to be held after Edinburgh City Council rejected a bid by Johnnie's Entertainments Limited to transform a gift shop into an amusement arcade. The move follows concerns raised by heritage watchdogs and a leading conservation architect about the state of South Bridge, which is now dominated by discount outlets and empty shop fronts. Now city officials are expected to fight the Edinburgh-based developer's plans for the amusement arcade in the Home Ideas store at the public inquiry later this year.
