They are images which look more like the work of Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali than those of Scottish architecture firms. But the creations are a vision for the streets of the Capital rather than for the walls of a modern art gallery. The schemes have been dreamt up by four firms from Glasgow and Edinburgh for tram stops in the city, and include a new public park at the top of Leith Walk and another on the Waterfront. Three tram lines are proposed to the north, west and south-east of Edinburgh, in a scheme by council-owned firm TIE, which are due to be up and running by 2009. The designs are intended to show how the trams could act as a catalyst for further development. But the work is also set to spark debate on what the tram stops should look like before the key transport project is up and running.
