An architect has lost a long-running battle with the city council over a £260 garden shed. Moray Royles transformed an overgrown corner outside his tenement flat in Marchmont's Spottiswoode Street into a neat garden complete with the shed to store his tools and bike But Edinburgh City Council ordered him to tear down the wooden 7ft by 5ft structure in a corner of his front garden after officials branded it "prominent and obtrusive". A last-ditch bid by Mr Royles to save the shed - which prompted a public inquiry earlier this year that cost taxpayers an estimated £2000 - has now been rejected.
