The dated display cases will be banished to the Dark Ages, while interactive displays will bring history alive. The £70 million revamp of the Royal Museum aims to drag the building into the 21st century. And a revamp of the exhibition space, which will see some displays suspended from the ceiling, forms a key part of the master-plan, as these stunning images show. Two new entrances will also be created on either side of the Chambers Street building's grand steps. There will be a shop and cafe in the refurbished street-level basement, and stairs and a lift up to the stunning main hall. Interactive displays and "discovery zones" will be installed to inject new life into the exhibits. The temporary exhibition area to the rear of the main hall will also be opened, with an escalator and lift taking visitors to the refurbished display areas on the museum's upper floors.
