Floodlit fountains and bridges would light up Leith after dark as part of £1.5 million plans to brighten up the port's image. The Water of Leith would glow and improved street lighting would encourage more people to wander between Ocean Terminal and the Shore under the proposals. It is hoped thousands more people would visit the waterfront area and its bars and restaurants if it is made more welcoming at night. Community leaders and business chiefs have long complained of poor street lighting making the area look "grim".
