Gap site is centre of attention

Edinburgh Evening News

A gap site in the Old Town is set to be filled with a new centre for design, architecture and urban living. Edinburgh City Council has already held informal talks with architects about the new complex, which would be built on the gap site between East Market Street and Cranston Street. The site is currently used for lock-up garages and three years ago controversial plans for a seven-storey development of offices, pubs and shops was thrown out over claims it would destroy the views of North Bridge, Calton Hill and the Edinburgh coastline. That plan was put forward by site owner EDI Group, the council's arms-length development firm.
