Art students to push boat out in docks design prize

Edinburgh Evening News

Architecture and art students have been invited to dream up ideas to breathe new life into the Leith Docks. Students from Edinburgh College of Art's architecture, drawing, painting and sculpture schools will join forces to draft plans for the area as part of a new contest launched by Scottish Parliament architects RMJM. The students will select one of three sites in Leith Docks for the month-long competition, which carries a £2000 first prize. It is hoped the contest could become an annual event with other parts of the city chosen in future. RMJM director Tony Kettle said: "As a multi-disciplinary design practice, RMJM promotes a collaborative approach to design, our creativity is not limited to the normal bounds of architecture and collaboration with lighting designers, engineers and artists is a positive reality.
