Scotland's largest city is looking to the booming Asian urban centre of Kuala Lumpur, home to one of the world's largest buildings, for inspiration in its ongoing regeneration. A delegation from Glasgow City Council visited the Malaysian capital, which has experienced phenomenal growth since the Asian economic resurgence began in the early nineties. Representatives from the council held private meetings with architects and engineers involved in the construction of the 1482ft Petronas Towers – among the world's 10 tallest buildings – to discuss ways of providing Glasgow with a world-class skyline. Hanzala Malik, convener of the council's development and regeneration services, attended the World Urban Congress in the city, which has been transformed from a languid colonial outpost to one of the most vibrant spots in south-east Asia.
