Tower plan to bring Clyde's glitter back

The Herald

The Clyde is to have another eye-catching waterfront landmark, inspired by the Berlin Philharmonie Concert Hall. The firm that designed the award-winning Radisson SAS hotel in Glasgow has now submitted a plan for a 14-storey golden tower on the banks of the river based on the German architect Hans Scharoun's masterpiece in Berlin. The news comes just days after it emerged that a 150ft, 15-storey, glass-fronted building by Page and Park architects, similar in style to the Norman Foster "gherkin" development in London, is to be built on the waterfront. Both buildings will be constructed on the same block in Clyde Street. A new 125ft building, to be named Unicorn Tower, design by Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop Architects, based in Glasgow, has been commissioned by the Lion Group Ltd, which owns the two buildings that the project will replace.
