'Boxy' home lives to fight another day

Edinburgh Evening News

A campaign to save a box-like 1960s house at the centre of a demolition battle has received a boost after the owners withdrew their planning application. A controversial plan to demolish the Merchiston home designed by Alexander Esme Gordon to make way for three new houses was blocked when Historic Scotland listed the building. The owners, architect Alistair White, 39, and his artist wife Julia, have backed out of a hearing into the plans next week and are instead set for a crunch meeting with city officials. It is understood Historic Scotland is also set to inspect the interior of the house in Greenhill Park within weeks following an invitation from Mr White.
